WORCESTER — Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. has named Detective Lt. Thomas Zona as supervisor of the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the DA’s office.
Detective Lt. Zona replaces Richard McKeon who was promoted to the rank of Major earlier this month and transferred to State Police headquarters in Framingham.
Zona, who was promoted from Lieutenant to Detective Lieutenant this month, has served 25 years with the State Police, 22 with the detective unit assigned to the DA’s office. He worked three years with the Worcester Police Department before joining the State Police.
“I have a lot of confidence in Detective Lt. Tom Zona,” Mr. Early said. “I am sure Tom will step into this new role with all
the skill and professionalism that he has shown throughout his career with the state police.”
Major McKeon had worked in the DA’s detective unit from 1986 to 2002 and from 2003 until his recent promotion. He served as supervisor the last five years.
“We are going to miss Rick,” Mr. Early said. “In the nearly five years that he has led the detective unit assigned to my office, he has moved up in the ranks to detective lieutenant, to detective captain and now to major. Rick has always displayed great leadership and skill and has been a great asset to Worcester County, and a credit to his profession.”
