SHREWSBURY — A 7-year-old Shrewsbury boy reamains in critical condition today after nearly drowning yesterday afternoon in the outdoor swimming pool at St. John's High School, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.The child, Aaditya Basrur, was taken to UMass-Memorial Medical Center after the accident, which happened about 2:15 p.m.
The Department of Public Health has ordered the pool closed pending an inspection. There were about 40 children in the pool participating in an “open swim” at the time of the incident, according to Mr. Early. They are participating in Camp Saint John, a day program for boys and girls aged 5-12. Shrewsbury Police, Fire and EMS responded to the incident along with State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney's office. The incident remains under investigation.
