July 18, 2011 Free Hoop Camp for Webster and Dudley Kids DUDLEY — Registration is underway for a free a co-ed basketball day camp to be held Aug. 1-5 at the Boys & Girls Club of Webster-Dudley, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph J. Early Jr. has announced. The camp, which will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, is open to players aged 11-16 of all skill levels from Webster and Dudley. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Players can register at the Boys & Girls Club, 55 Oxford Ave., Dudley, or by calling Tony Poti, executive director, at (508) 943-0037. The camp, part of a partnership between the District Attorney’s office, the police departments of Webster and Dudley and the Boys & Girls Club of Webster-Dudley, is made possible with a grant of $19,396 from the Governor’s Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities program. “This camp is a combined effort to help kids have some summer fun, learn some skills, get some relevant and important information that helps us prevent crime,” Mr. Early said. Teams will be coached by police officers and peer mentors and the program will include skill development and games.
The camp will conclude
on Aug. 5 with a recognition ceremony and an
informational forum conducted by the District
Attorney’s office and the Webster and Dudley police
departments. Topics such as bullying, cyber bullying
and substance-abuse prevention will be addressed.
