Store Clerk Dies;
Suspect Charged with Murder
FITCHBURG — A Fitchburg man was arraigned
today in Fitchburg District Court on a charge of
murder in the shooting late Wednesday night outside
JV’s Variety Store, according to Worcester County
District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Scott E. Person, 40, 781A Fitchburg State Road,
Ashby died this morning at University of
Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. He had
been wounded in the attack by Garcia-Concepcion
shortly after he left work at JV’s.
Rafael Garcia-Concepcion, 32, of 86 Cleghorn St.,
was arrested late last night. He was initially
charged with armed assault with intent to murder and
assault with a weapon with intent to commit robbery.
The charge was upgraded to murder after Mr. Person
died.
Judge Andrew L. Mandell ordered Mr.
Garcia-Concepcion held without bail and his case was
continued to Sept. 1. Christopher P. Loconto was
appointed to represent Mr. Garcia-Concepcion.
Assistant District Attorney Joseph T. Moriarty Jr.
represented the Commonwealth.
State Police Detectives assigned to Worcester County
District Attorney’s Office and Fitchburg Police are
continuing to investigate.
