AUBURN — A 10-month-old boy, who fell about 21 feet from a third-floor motel window onto a concrete slab this morning, is in serious condition at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Davrael Sorrell fell from the window at the Comfort Inn, 426 Southbridge St. shortly before 11 a.m. He was transported to UMass by the Auburn Emergency Medical Services.

The preliminary investigation shows that the boy’s mother,
Shanice Ashmore of Worcester, was supporting the boy while he stood on the window sill watching a truck in an adjacent parking lot. The boy leaned forward against the screen and it gave way.

Massachusetts State Police assigned to Worcester District Attorney’s Office and the Auburn Police are investigating.
